CHIEF DATA SCIENTIST 

Position Type: Primarily, we are looking for someone in a part-time advisor role, which would not necessarily need to be based overseas. Reports to: President/Director of Research

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: The primary duty of the Chief Data Scientist is to bring scientific and statistical methodologies to bear on the evaluation and execution of key program strategies, including:

  • Finding ways to objectively measure the positive outcomes in children in our homes against the wider population.
  • Helping us maximize the effective and intelligent use of statistical tools in analyzing our anti-trafficking data and migration survey data in order to help us more effectively prevent human trafficking and lead people toward safe and prosperous foreign employment.
  • Using scientific and mathematical tools to optimize decision-making and policy formulation in all areas of our work.

Qualifications: Candidates should have the following qualifications:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of assessing complex issues and finding systematic solutions

  • Ability to multi-task and manage various projects simultaneously

  • A master's degree or higher (doctoral degree preferred) in data science, research methods, statistics in the social sciences, or a related field 

Work Environment and Requirements: Ideally this position will be based overseas. All candidates should be willing to travel three to four months per year (spread over multiple smaller trips).

FINANCE DIRECTOR

Position Type:  Full-Time, Stateside, Salaried 

Reports to: President

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: It is the responsibility of the Finance Director to oversee all financial transactions for the organization, including:

  • Financial Reporting and Analysis - Continually analyze our financial data in order to provide crucial guidance and recommendations to the President and Board of Directors.  Send out monthly financial reports with a dashboard analyzing key indicators, and send monthly budget updates to staff who oversee budget areas. 
  • Oversee Financial Processes - Manage key processes around reimbursements and payments for staff support accounts, wire transfers, depositing and recording of donations, accounting, payroll, severance, and staff benefits. Continually improve financial processes.
  • International Accounting / Audits - Work with overseas staff to ensure that all fields are using Quickbooks, and to ensure that money is being spent for the purposes for which it was given. 
  • Facilitate the Annual Budget Process - Work with the President, Leadership Team, and board Finance Committee to facilitate the annual budget create (I think you can remove the word "create" or change it) process (our Fiscal Year starts Oct 1). 
  • Manage Key Relationships - Manage key high level relationships with our external auditors, accountant, banks, and the ECFA.
  • Fundraising - Build relationships with donors to raise funds for the ministry. 

Work Environment and Requirements:  Ideal candidates would be located in Denver, CO, or Lincoln, NE, but it could be possible for this position to operate remotely.  Will require at some domestic and international travel (3-6 weeks per year).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  Candidates should be mature Christians with very high capacity, and passion for fighting injustice.  Ideal candidates will have a Master's Degree in Finance or Accounting, or CPA, and at least 10 years' experience in a related field.

SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

Position Type: This position is based in Kathmandu, Nepal, and will require the candidate to raise his/her own support. Some travel to transit monitoring locations may be required.

Introduction: The unique data we collect as a result of our transit monitoring strategy is of immense value. Interception intel is central to our efforts to bring traffickers to justice and informs our expansion strategy. Therefore, we have developed a custom data collection and management platform we call Searchlight Human Trafficking Data Center.

The core operational mission of this role is to lead the design, development, and maintenance of key custom software tools, with Searchlight as our flagship product. This includes helping us recruit, train, and manage a professional, full-time team of software developers. Searchlight utilizes Django web frameworks in combination with PostgreSQL and AngularJS.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the development pipeline, based on priorities from the Technology Lead.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and management of full-time, volunteer, and contract developer teams.
  • Lead bug repairs, quality control, and troubleshooting user issues.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field
  • 2+ years professional experience in software development project management and team leadership

INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN'S MINISTRY DIRECTOR

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Love Justice International operates 17 family-like children's homes in 3 countries (Nepal, Bangladesh, and India), as well as a school aimed at providing our children transformative education that will help them become difference-makers in their nation.  While our anti-trafficking work is in expansion mode, we do not plan to expand our children's work (homes and schools) until we can prove objectively, with data, that the strategy is working.  The job of the International Children's Ministry Director will be to facilitate the scaling up of the children's home model when the time comes to do so.  This will involve identifying the right people and places for this expansion and helping local fields adapt and install our core children's ministry processes.  The Children's Ministry Director will need to spend extensive time in Nepal and other Asian countries to learn about our model.

Work Environment and Requirements: This position will be based in Asia at least for one year, and will involve significant travel.

ANTI-TRAFFICKING FIELD LIAISON

Position Type: Support Raised, Overseas

Reports to: Regional Anti-Trafficking Director

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: To ensure excellence among our 11 anti-human trafficking fields in Asia and Africa, Love Justice uses a number of "core processes."  For example: a Questioning Protocol to identify trafficking victims and a Victim Interview Form, the use of Searchlight (our human trafficking data entry portal), the development of a Case Information Form to collect detailed information about a trafficking case, a Transit Monitoring Standard (a guidebook for how to do Transit Monitoring). We have 27 such processes connected to our anti-trafficking work which we intend for each field to implement.  Our model is to choose the right local partners and put a lot of trust in them to coordinate their projects day-to-day, with our role being largely to assist them in the adaptation and installation of these processes. Anti-Trafficking Field Liaisons will choose a number of these processes to "specialize" in, and will assist local fields in adapting them, under the guidance of the relevant regional anti-trafficking directors.   

Work Environment and Requirements: This position will be based in Asia, and could involve travel all over the world.  Eventually, we will want one or more Anti-Trafficking Field Liaisons to be based in South Africa. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Our Core Processes involve a number of specialty-areas, including finance and accounting, legal, human resources and human assessments, but many of these processes are original, and just require good communication and work skills. Business experience, including familiarity with complex spreadsheets would be very helpful.  All candidates should be mature Christians who are passionate about justice, self-motivated, diligent, problem-solvers, faithful, and willing to adapt to a variety of difficult contexts.  A minimum of a bachelor's or masters degree in a relevant field is required.

NEPAL ANTI-HUMAN TRAFFICKING DIRECTOR

Position Type: Full Time, Salaried

Reports to: Love Justice Nepal National Director 

Introduction: Love Justice Nepal fights human trafficking through its border and transit monitoring strategy. The main elements of this strategy are border monitoring, data collection and analysis, intelligence-led investigations, and legal assistance. In Nepal, LJI currently operates around 20 border monitoring stations to intercept potential trafficking cases.

Qualifications: Candidates should be fluent in Nepali and willing to relocate to Kathmandu, Nepal. They should be high-capacity, mature Nepali or Indian nationals who are full of faith and passionate about fighting injustice. They should possess leadership skills and should have experienced significant exposure to Western culture (ideally educated in the West).

OVERSEAS HUMAN RESOURCE DIRECTOR

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: The following are the primary responsibilities of the Human Resource (HR) Director. 

  • Managing Human Assessments - Love Justice uses a variety of human assessments for hiring, including several for specific positions (such as transit monitors) that we have developed and tested ourselves.  The HR Director will manage the continual improvement of these assessments, and their implementation in all the fields where we work. 
  • Internship Program - The HR Director will hire, train, and support regular summer interns who are brought to the field each year.
  • Community Care - The HR Director will handle a variety of tasks related to caring for our expat community members, including helping orient and onboard new hires, helping them adjust to life overseas, and checking in regularly to ensure that they are thriving. 
  • Interviewing - The HR Director will screen candidates who apply to work for Love Justice overseas, including conducting preliminary interviews and passing off qualified candidates to the relevant director.

INTERNATIONAL FINANCE COORDINATOR

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:  To ensure that all Love Justice fields are following international accounting and Love Justice Standards, and spending money for the purpose for which it was given.  To accomplish this, the IFC will focus on three processes: (1) setting each field up on Quickbooks (as well as helping with ongoing problems and ensuring that they are using it correctly), (2) ensuring each field is filling out a "Request to Payment" sheets monthly (showing how actual spending aligns with the purposes for which it was given), and (3) the adaptation and implementation of a Corruption Prevention Policy. 

Work Environment and Requirements: This position will be based in Asia, and will involve semi-regular travel (including at least once a year trip to Africa).

Requirements and Commitments for Overseas Staff

Time Commitment: All candidates must be willing to make a minimum of a two-year commitment to work for the ministry. (An evaluation will be held after three months to assess fit and performance.) In addition, all candidates are encouraged to conduct a one to two week investigative trip to the location of work prior to committing to working overseas for Love Justice International.

Christian Living: All candidates must be willing to commit to a Christian lifestyle, regarding purity of life, as well as engagement in regular fellowship and devotion.

Self-Support and Fundraising: All candidates must be willing to raise support for their own living expenses. Each staff will maintain a "support account," out of which his/her salary will be paid, and extra money will be used to help support Love Justice projects. All positions require that a minimum of 90% of personal support be raised before going into the field.

Professionalism: Although this is ministry, we expect to maintain a level of professionalism equal to or higher than that in the business world. This includes regular and consistent working hours (40 hrs./week), faithful attendance of required meetings, compliance with the directives and policies of leaders, and fulfillment of commitments. You will be asked to give of your time and freedom at a level that accord with the importance of our work.
