Love Justice monitors are our frontline heroes, keeping vigilant watch and intercepting people at risk in real time to prevent human trafficking. When traffickers transport individuals through cities or borders, the monitors are the ones standing guard to disrupt their plans.

Take a sneak peek behind the scenes and meet the teams turning your gifts into impact.

Here are a few of the staff on two of our most impactful teams in Africa: Uganda and Kenya.

UGANDA

Alice-etamAlice - Project Manager

Alice is a mother to a young girl and a lawyer by profession. She came up with the innovative idea for mobile monitoring—having some monitors on the move to find even more trafficking situations. Alice came to Uganda from Kenya when she was 17 to help her aunt; when her aunt left, she continued on her own. Having experienced abuse as a child, she wanted to be a voice for the vulnerable and powerless.

“Stopping any kind of abuse is key in my heart. Sometimes you just need a shoulder to lean on or to know that someone loves you.”

Sharon - Monitor in Kampala

Sharon was trafficked into domestic slavery before joining Love Justice. She joined a friend who was seeking a better job in Kenya, crossed the border, and came to a house where 100 Ugandan girls were hidden. The traffickers took their photos, confiscated their passports, and dressed them in Muslim clothing. After a week, Sharon was taken to Oman, where she started work in a mansion with ten rooms. Because of the intense workload, she fell sick after a few months and was sent back.

“I was lucky because many other girls have died.”

Reagan - Monitor in a border town

Reagan is a father of four and serves on the local council. He first learned about human trafficking when a fellow Christian struggling with poverty was shockingly arrested as a trafficker.

“I care about my fellow Ugandans, not to be trafficked; there are dangerous things out there, and I don’t need any of my people to be a victim.”

Lucy - Mobile Monitor

Lucy is a multilingual mother of four who loves sharing the gospel with those she intercepts.

“I love God so much, before going to the field to monitor I ask for guidance, spiritual eyes and physical eyes to see the right people and intercept them the right way.”

peter-and-faizo-on-bikePeter - Monitor in a border town

Peter was a trafficker before turning his life around. Now he uses his insider knowledge to stop traffickers and protect potential victims.

“We continue rescuing these souls because it's a reality; I've seen it. It's a reality; I've gone through it. It's a reality; I've done it. So let's keep fighting; let's keep doing whatever it takes, having faith in God by praying.”

KENYA

June Nderitu, Kenya project manager for anti-traffickingJune - Project Manager

June led the Kenya teams from low impact to high, encouraging them in faith the whole way.

“I always start by saying we want to thank God for the work in Kenya because if God had not been on our side, I don't know where we would be.”

Amina - Monitor in Mombasa

Amina has worked in the field actively intercepting, as well as in the shelter caring for people after interception. One potential victim she remembers was deaf and mute; figuring out how to help her get home was a remarkable challenge.

“I panicked a little bit seeing the victim … she was new in the town, didn't know anyone, couldn't communicate … it was a victory to get her home against all odds.”

Harrison - Monitor in Nairobiharrison-and-lucy-2-2

Harrison loves meeting and talking with so many people through his work with Love Justice, empathizing with others and sharing different ideas about life.

“I lost my parents at a tender age … Love Justice is the greatest family I ever had.”

Lucy - Monitor in Nairobi

Lucy has been with Love Justice for about 15 years now. She first joined simply because she needed a job, but she has grown to love stopping human trafficking and sharing the gospel.

“I’ve seen people come back to me and say, ‘You did this for me and thank you so much.’ … It touched my heart—to help people.”

Together for freedom

This is a small sample of a wide pool of monitors and other staff who make this work happen day in and day out. There are many more people, stations, and countries not represented here. We are honored to stand with each and every one.

It takes a whole network of caring people to fight an injustice like human trafficking—from generous givers who fuel the work, to administrative support, to frontline heroes and everyone in between. It’s important to us to find the right people to partner with us, people who care deeply about the work we do.

If you have a heart to protect people from human trafficking, we want you on our team as well. Partner with us to keep the next person free using the button below!

About The Author
Paula Cornell | Content Marketing & Social Media Strategist at Love Justice International

Paula is from Seattle and joined Love Justice shortly after graduating from the University of Washington with a bachelor's degree in journalism and public interest communications. Prior to college, she spent several years volunteering with Youth With A Mission, where she heard and witnessed incredible stories from around the world of healing and redemption in the face of injustice. Seeing how stories like these could inspire hope, bring understanding, and spur people into action, she began to dream of how stories could change the world. This dream eventually led her to return to college to pursue a writing degree and delivered her into the hands of Love Justice, where she is happily learning to write with an awesome team of people for a cause that she cares deeply about.
