"Impact." Every nonprofit says it, us included. It's a good word, and it sounds great in fundraising letters and on the website. But how do you actually know an organization's impact is real, and not just a nice story told well?
That question is the reason the Love Justice podcast exists, and it’s back for a special five-episode drop.
The ideas behind Love Justice's impact weren't handed to us; the ideas behind our impact are hard-won. They came from decades of work that lived close to both the mission and the injustices we fight. This special five-episode drop is where we get to share them: where we decide to work and why, how we know the work is genuinely helping (and not quietly doing harm), who we trust to lead it on the ground, and what the faith at the center of it all actually looks like in practice.
Across all five, I got the pleasure of sitting down with our founder and CEO, John Molineux, along with a few special guests. Here's a quick look at each conversation—and where to start if you're new to Love Justice!
"Do No Harm"—with Scott Sabin (Plant with Purpose)
"We can't sell what you told us to plant, and my kids can't eat it." That's essentially what a farmer once told Scott Sabin, former CEO of Plant with Purpose—and it's the kind of moment that reframes everything.
Good intentions are where all of this begins, but they're not enough. Scott joins John to talk honestly about how well-meaning charity can actually cause harm, and why measuring real impact matters far more than counting activity.
"The Role of Data in the Fight Against Human Trafficking"
Trafficking happens in the dark, and reliable data on it is shockingly scarce. Here, John pulls back the curtain on Searchlight, our database of nearly 100,000 potential-victim records, and how we use it (and now AI) in our work. My favorite part of this conversation is when we get into why we don't trust ourselves to grade our own impact, and what we're doing—and planning to do—about it. Spoiler: it involves peer review of our impact.
"Prayer and Fasting"—with Nikki Still
Prayer is the foundation of everything we do, and we don't just say that; in this episode we actually get to share what that looks like in practice. This is my favorite of the five. Over the years I've been so personally blessed by Nikki Still, our spiritual director, and by watching God work within Love Justice in undeniable ways. We share some of the breakthroughs we've seen follow prayer and fasting, including a team in Kenya that went from a handful of intercepts a month to hundreds. This is the perfect episode for anyone who wants their faith stirred (and who doesn't want that?!).
"Entrust the Faithful"—with Sean Mullens
It took us nearly 20 years to reach 100,000 intercepts. We expect the next 100,000 in about three. Yes, you read that right: 100,000 in about three. John and Sean Mullens, our director of champion recruitment, unpack what changed—and how finding the right local leaders became the key that unlocked our expansion and impact.
"Injustice and God's Sovereignty"
This is the more hard-hitting episode of the series. John and I talk through what I think is one of the hardest questions in the Christian faith, if not the hardest: how can God be good when there's so much suffering? I'll be up front and honest; we don't answer that question. What we do is walk through it together, and land on a conviction that has carried John for two decades: "God's heart is broken over injustice, and if we want to know Him and know His love, we need to let our heart be broken too."
